  • Prospero works through web browsers. Any device which can access the internet through a browser can use Prospero. That makes it easy to use and accessible.

Anyone can create their own Smartscripts in Prospero using any web browser.

When you want to play a Smartscript, you might need particular technologies in place. In the Prospero Library the requirements for each Smartscript are clearly set out, so you know what you need in advance of using it.

If you’re using Prospero in a classroom or studio space you’ll typically need a PC, Mac or Chromebook. You will need to be running one of two browsers - Chrome or Firefox - as Prospero needs to install a free extension or add-on (approved and authorised by Google and Mozilla) to work effectively.

Some classroom Smartscripts can also use multiple tablets and smartphones to help you organise group work or individual tasks. The Library makes these arrangements clear in advance so you can plan accordingly.

Other Smartscripts run purely on tablets or smartphones, so learning can by personalised or mobile, letting you explore the world around you. Check the Library.

Some Smartscripts are available in different formats - Lite versions have less hardware requirements making them easier to use anywhere. Check the Library.

  • Prospero works best on computers in up-to-date versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox (the Prospero extension is available for both of these browsers). We do, however, recommend Google Chrome for the best experience.

Prospero can also be run without the extension on mobile or tablet in Safari for iOS and Chrome for Android.

  • Prospero was created by C&T. C&T are a theatre company with a special interest in how drama, learning and technology can be brought together. The company has a thirty year track record in this field and have an international reputation for their work. Prospero grew out of this conviction and the belief that drama, creativity and technology can inspire, educate and empower. You can find out more about C&T elsewhere on this site and here.

C&T is a Registered Charity, which means we are not-for-profit. All the income we earn from Prospero licenses is invested back into the platform, making it better for you and enhancing the learning opportunities of students and audiences.

  • Prospero was created by C&T, world-leaders in mixing drama, creativity, technology and learning. The arts are at the centre of our approach. We want to see Prospero enhance the digital capacities of other arts organisations , helping you reach new audiences in playful innovative ways. C&T are a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England.

We have already used Prospero to support artists and theatres. China Plate used Prospero as a platform to digitally distribute learning materials to schools who had seen their touring production of Romeo and Juliet. Composer Martin Ward is using Prospero to build an interactive musical audio guide to London, using smartphones and GPS.

Fidget Theatre in Leeds have used Prospero to make a playful game app to support their touring production of Birds Nest Billy, for the under 5s.

Whether you are a gallery, museum, theatre or dance company, arts centre or library Prospero offers a limitless canvas on which to extend your audience, build new relationships and grow income. Talk to use to find out what’s possible.

  • The Prospero Library is a growing catalogue of smartscripts created by out growing community of Producers. These smartscripts can cover a multitude of art forms, subjects, skills and techniques that you can use for free right now.

  • A Smartscript is our name for a workshop or lesson you make in Prospero. Think of a Smartscript as an interactive lesson plan. It has all the instructions, tasks and activities you need to make your lesson or workshop happen, but in an automated format. When you’ve assembled your Smartscript anyone can play it. Your lesson plays out on a computer, tablet or smartphone in real-time, animated with your very own video and media content. A smartscript brings lesson and workshops to live through the power of the internet.

Just input your bank details into Prospero (we use Stripe - the global leader in online transactions. It’s safe and secure), set the prices for your smartscripts in the Library and start making money! Prospero deducts a small percentage from each sale you make to cover admin charges, but the rest is yours! You can start to benefit from your skill and expertise! Watch the tutorial video in the Academy to see how to set this up.

  • There are various ways to share your Smartscripts. The Library is the most public route, allowing all library members to see your work. You can also limit access to your own Prospero Producer page or keep them private and share discreetly by private link. It’s all you to you.

  • Tokens are the currency you need to work and share in Prospero.

Once you have purchased your Prospero License you will automatically see your token balance in your screen toolbar, top right (different licenses entitle you to different amounts of tokens - the better your license the more and cheaper the tokens are). As you use your tokens your balance will adjust accordingly.

Directors are similar in that they can create and share Smartscripts in Prospero but they are managed by the Producer. Producers can add and delete Director accounts and control their creative preferences.

With a Basic subscription the Producer is the sole Director. With a Pro account the Producer can appoint up to five Directors. At Enterprise level, the number of Directors is set by mutual agreement.

If you are planning to have multiple teachers, practitioners or students making content in Prospero you will need to choose the level of subscription that best meets your needs.
